Research Orientations and Academic Achievements:

The Molecular Medical Research Center of FJMU mainly orients its research activities to the following fields:

1. Research on  the molecular mechanisms of invasion and metastasis of hepatic and gastric cancer; which has investigated the relation among cNOS, MMPs, TIMPs and the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer and the prognosis, the relation between cNOS and the onset, progression and tumor angiogenesis of hepatic cancer, and the relation between 67kD laminin receptor and the invasion and metastasis of hepatic cancer cells. These studies have contributed over 20 papers to SCI journals and other core periodicals and have won the third prize for Fujian Science & Technology Progress Award.

2. Research on the genetic synthesis, expression and anti-tumor metastasis of snake venom-cystatin, which has demonstrated the inhibition of tumor invasion and metastasis in vivo and in vitro by secretory recombinant sv-cystatin protein produced in the yeast expression system, and contributed 8 articles to domestic and foreign journals. The Center has filed for a national patent (now in the substantive review phase) and participated in Fujian “618” High-Tech Projects Fair for 3 times, achieving good social effects.

3. Research on the signal transduction of nitric oxide and arachidonic acid in the toxoplasma-infected macrophages, which has probed into the role and mechanism of calcium-related NO and AA in the toxoplasma-infected macrophage, contributed 12 articles to journals, such as Parasitology, and Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases, etc., and won the third prize for Fujian Science & Technology Progress Award.

4. Research on the molecular biology of hepatitis B virus, which has systematically studied the genetic variances of hepatitis B virus, including genotype-specific differences and the biological importance of various gene mutations, and contributed 14 papers to the authoritative journals at home and abroad. The Center has been granted one national patent.

5. Research on the molecular biology of helicobacter pylori, which has concluded the project of “Screening of candidate antigens  of anti-coccoid helicobacter pylori vaccines and related immune protection” (supported by Fujian Natural Science Fund) and logged 2 gene sequences into the Genbank. The Center has published 9 academic papers and won the third prize for Fujian Science & Technology Progress Award.

6. Research on the regulatory mechanism of directed differentiation of the neural stem cells, which has conducted a series of probes into the differentiation and migration of the transplanted neural stem cells in specific brain areas and the effects of some inducing factors on the transplant outcome. It has also studied the relation between Notch signaling pathway and the directed differentiation of neural stem cells. The Center has published 22 articles and won the third prize for Fujian  Science & Technology Progress Award.
