General Introduction：

Established on September 15, 1996 with the approval from Fujian Science and Technology Committee,  Fujian Institute of Neurology is now a research base for the key discipline of Hematology in Fujian Province  and it also enjoys preferential development in the Department of Education. The institute embraces following three departments: Clinical Medicine Department, Basic Research Department and Teaching Department. In 2003, it became an organization eligible to grant doctorate degree. Now it is a base of postgraduate education innovation and a base of specialist doctor training in Fujian Province; it is a center of neurology medical treatment, science research and teaching in Fujian Province. Now it has 33 doctors among whom 10 are professors/chief physician, 5 are associate professors/associate chief physician, 11 are MDs, 3 are doctoral supervisors. Among its academic staff, 2 are state-level candidates for the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, and 2 are winners of the China Youth Science & Technology Award.

With the persistent effort of several generations, the institute has made tremendous progress in aspects of clinical medical treatment, teaching and science research：it has established labs of neural molecule genetics, neural molecule biology, cerebrovascular diseases, neural electrophysiology, neuropathology and has secured 5 stable academic research orientations such as neural heredity and masculine diseases, neural immunity diseases, neural degenerative diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and epilepsy and neural electrophysiology, among which neural heredity and masculine diseases are in the leading positions nationwide and have reached the international advanced  level in certain aspects.

In recent years, the institute has undertaken 6 tasks granted by the National Natural Science Fund and over 30 tasks granted by several provincial departments such as: Fujian Natural Science Fund, Fujian Department of Science & Technologies, Fujian Department of Health, Fujian Department of Education. The faculty has published more than 200 papers, among which 16 are enlisted in SCI such as Nature Medicine, Science, JFASEB, etc; The faculty has also participated in the compilation 6 monographs and textbooks, and have won over 20 prizes in the field of science research including first prize of Fujian Science & Technology Advancement Award. The institute has cultivated over 60 PhDs and masters and has sent a great number of qualified talents to medical institutes in Fujian Province and the whole country, among whom many have won first prize of Fujian Excellent PhD Dissertations as well as first prize of Fujian Excellent Articles of Natural Science, etc.

The institute now has sophisticated equipments and devices such as ABI9700 PCR machine, Bio-Rad Mycycler PCR machine, Bio-Rad coelosphere reader, Eppendorf spectrophotometer, Sartorius ultrapure water system, Sanyo CO2 incubator, NIKON cultivation inverted microscope, biologic clean work station, etc. Professor Wang Ning, Director of the institute, is a standing commissioner of the Neurology Branch of China Medical Society, the Leader of the Neural Hereditary Disease Group, the Chief Commissioner of the Neurology Branch of Fujian Medical Society, a state-level candidate for “New Century Millions of Talents Project”, a winner of China Youth Science & Technology  Award, a Middle-aged and Young Expert with Outstanding Contribution of the Ministry of Health, an Excellent Expert of Fujian Province, etc.
