Research Orientation
The Center for Hematology focuses on gene therapy for leukemia and has established genetic diagnostic laboratories, DNA synthesis and sequencing laboratories, and gene therapy laboratories. In its previous research, the Center was the first to report the endemic area of human T-cell leukemia virus in China. It discovered that human T-cell leukemia virus in China, different from that reported in other countries, is a new strain, which is of great significance for preventing or containing the spread of the virus in China. On the basis of its research into genetic diagnosis, DNA synthesis, gene sequencing and therapy, and detection of oncogene and anti-cancer gene, the Center now proceeds to develop the gene drug of Bcl-2 antisense thiophosphoric oligodeoxynucleotides, which has been proved by initial studies to be effective in suppressing the growth of cancerous cells.
